The mark of a good hosting server is that they will support you in your time of need. I have had a bad experience with my previous hosting server where it said it had a mysql database ready for my account and when I wanted to configure, I could not connect to the darn thing. When I emailed them for support, guess what … no reply. After seeing out my contract, I changed ISPs and the difference is like night and day. All you need to do is go to the www.hostgator.com main page and click on the support button on top.
A new window below will pop up and they’ll ask for your account information. Once it is ok, you can just continue asking the questions and you should get good answers. Till next time, cya

With this, you can see the status of the daemons. If the lights are green then they are ok. Any other colors, then its time to call for support. You can check it out here.

Another cool management tool in the hostgator.com web hosting service is the subdomain stats. You just need to login to the control panel, click on the subdomain stats icon 
and you’ll get a new screen below.
Go to the Awstats and click on your subdomained and prepared to be awed by all the nice graphs and pictures of your subdomain’s performance.

On lower quality hosting sites, your pages will be in separate html formats, example http://www.test.com/a.html, http://www.test.com/b.html ). But let’s say that a.html is about food and b.html is about music, you would want it to have a different domain name, eg, food.com or music.com. This would be next to impossible cos most probably would have bought it and it will take a fortune to buy the domain. A better and free way of going around this is to subdomain so you will have a URL like, food.test.com and music.test.com. Then, you can have all your html and images files in different directories which makes housekeeping so much easier.
With hostgator.com, all you need to do is to login to the control panel, and click on the subdomain icon, 
, add the subdomain which will append to your domain name and setup your redirection, this will point to the webpage or folder that will be your homepage for this subdomain and your good to go. A working example is http://hostgator.shazli.com. Till next time, cya.

As mentioned earlier, I’ve just moved hosting server to hostgator.com and it opened my eyes on what a hosting service should be. The main thing that impressed me was Fantastico. Once you click the smiley face 
Fantastico De Luxe. It tells you what programs are available to install like below.
Once you click on the program you want, the right side of the screen will ask you to fill in the blanks and its installed. In the screen shot below, it also tells you that a newer version is available and you can upgrade it if you need to. So go ahead and try the hostgator web hosting.
New home, new blog

Welcome to my new home. You may have seen me on shazlig.blogspot.com but I’m on this great hosting service which gives me my own wordpress blog software in five minutes so I’m really happy.
What’s new with me? I’ve redesigned my website and now I’ve achieved something I’ve been dreaming of for about 10 years which is ……… my own guitar shop. OK. so its a virtual guitar store. You can check it out at http://www.shazli.com but its only for US and Canadian customers. At least, you can enjoy the pictures of these great guitars.
I’ve got a couple of youtube videos up which is on my playing guitar. Here’s my first one which you can check out.
