seymour duncan hot-rodded pickup replacement

April 30, 2009

Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set Black

Oops, I did it again! No, I didn’t do a Britney. I have re-installed the Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded pickups. After months of missing that tone, I replaced my old pickups with these pups on my Onyx Les Paul copy. And the results, pure tonal bliss. The bridge is really sharp and crisp while the neck pickup is warm and ‘Jazzy’. Incidentally, I found out that I actually had DiMarzio pickups. Interesting. I have attached a video I made during the pickup ’surgery’. Enjoy!

March 19, 2009

Check out the new pickups from EMG. The gold, chrome, white, cream color EMG 81 and EMG 60 pickups. They have also released the EMG-X pickups which has more tone then the regular EMG-81. Personally, I feel that these pickups are their response to the rise of Seymour Duncan Blackouts. There is also the Aliexi Laiho setup which is their passive pickup with a boost switch.
